What can you do? What have you done? How have you affected people and how will you affect them?
Humans are limited. They are relatively tiny in a universe. Any one particular person is likely to have little effect on the world around them and few will remember us when we're gone, certainly beyond a few generations. But a necessary lemming? No. A pure victim of circumstance? Certainly not... unless that's what we choose.
Clients who show up to the counseling office predict their own success merely by the level of ownership they are prepared to take of their own lives. The ones who show up with nothing but complaints rarely experience the joys of healing. The ones who point fingers and smugly shrug their shoulders while looking at their partners don't end up with happier relationships.
But the clients who bring their own responsibility step foot into a whole new realm health. I am so impressed with those who are ready to own their power. They still cry in grief. They still get mad and, in moments, feel hopeless. But they don't stay there. They face their faults, then get up and move. They breathe through the emotions, decide what they want and take action to get it. These are the clients who heal and begin to have positive effects on those around them. Who will you be?
