The Opposite of Love is Fear

In our current political climate, you have to work very hard to limit your exposure to fear-mongering media, culture, and social posts. They are EVERYWHERE. Every candidate payrolls a team strategy to make you reactively choose and then defend whomever you think is going to save you from the impending disaster and destruction.

They know what you are most afraid of.

They will prey on every ounce of adrenaline they can get you to produce.

The more afraid you are, the less likely you are to think about the nuances of the issues. You're not dumb, but they sure can get you to act like you are. If they can make you afraid enough, your frontal lobe will shut off. Your dinosaur brain will then take over. That's your amygdala, the emergency response section.

The amygdala is so quick and powerful, it can get you to throw chairs out windows, yell at your kids, and punch perfect strangers in the face--all of which I'm assuming you do not really want to be representatives of your character. That's not who you want to be, but in that moment all you're focused on is saving your life.

The amygdala is also really good at making you boldly proclaim ignorant BS you read on the internet and fly that overly simplistic flag in your yard. You're protecting yourself. You're joining the mob side you think will win, the side you think will save you.

It's not your fault. You got hijacked.

Here's what I want you to know in this moment before you scroll away to the next terrifying post... There IS a good, powerful God who loves you and is concerned about you. This God is so good, He is already strategically moving to rescue you and protect you and provide for you and your family. There may be moments He provides just enough, but it will. be. enough. That good God's name is Jesus. He also goes by Creator Sets Free and the God Who Saves His People. If you can learn who He is, remember who He is, believe who He is, I promise the fear-mongering will have less power over you.
